When you sign up, we collect your email address, display name, and date of birth. If you add a profile photo, we store that too. You can also sign in with Apple or Google, and we receive the email address and name those providers share with us. As you use WorkPet.ai, we store the tasks you create, your pet's state and stats, your coin balance, the accessories you own, and any social activity (friends, messages, gifts, reactions, and comments). If you turn on notifications, we store a device token for your device, used only to deliver them. We also keep a record of which emails we've sent you, so you never get the same one twice. When you chat with your pet, the messages you type are sent to our AI provider (see "Third-party services" below).
Your display name, profile photo, pet, level, and any task you mark public are visible to other users on leaderboards, your profile, and friends' feeds. Letters are visible only to the recipient. Comments you leave on a completed task are visible to that task's owner and their friends.
We use your data to run the app — saving your progress, syncing across devices, sending account emails (like password resets and account notices), and powering AI-generated pet messages tailored to your tasks and chats. We don't use your data for advertising, and we don't sell it.
We also send occasional emails about your pet, such as a welcome when you adopt or a note when you reach a streak milestone. If you haven't opened the app in a while, we may send a check-in. These emails are based on your activity in the app, like your streak and when you last opened it. We use our email provider's open and click tracking to see which emails are useful. You can turn them off anytime (see Your rights).
Your pet's voice, tips, and chat replies are generated by AI, not a human. When you chat with your pet or trigger an AI tip, the relevant text (your message, your task, basic context about your pet) is sent to Anthropic's Claude API. Anthropic doesn't use this data to train their models when accessed through their API. We don't send your email, password, or payment information to the AI provider.
We use Firebase (Google) for authentication, database, and file storage. We use Cloudflare for hosting and DNS. We use Anthropic's Claude API to generate personalized AI pet messages. We use Loops to send email. Loops receives your email address, your account ID, your pet's name and breed, whether you've opted out of emails, and the emails we ask it to send you, and records whether those emails are opened or clicked. These providers process data on our behalf under their own privacy terms. We do not sell or share your personal information with advertisers, data brokers, or any third party for their own marketing purposes.
Your data is stored on Firebase servers in the United States. Loops, our email provider, stores your email address and email history in the United States. If you're accessing WorkPet.ai from outside the U.S., your data will be transferred to and processed in the U.S., which may have different data protection laws than your home country.
We keep your data while your account is active. When you delete your account, we erase your pets, tasks, social data, messages, and account record within 30 days. This includes your contact record and email history with Loops. Some information may remain in encrypted backups for up to 90 days before being purged on the normal backup cycle. We may retain a minimal record (e.g., that an account with a given email was deleted) to prevent abuse and meet legal obligations.
We protect your data with encrypted connections (HTTPS), Firebase's authentication and access controls, and server-side rules that prevent users from reading or modifying each other's private data. No system is perfectly secure, but we follow standard practices and update them as risks evolve.
We use strictly necessary cookies for authentication and session management. We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies.

If you're in the European Union or United Kingdom, you also have the right to access, rectify, restrict, port, or object to our processing of your data, and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. We process your data to provide the service you signed up for, and in our legitimate interest in running and improving it. Account emails are part of providing the service. We send pet and progress emails because you use WorkPet.ai; we tell you about them when you sign up, and every one includes a way to opt out.
If you're in California, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to delete it, the right to correct it, and the right to opt out of any "sale" or "sharing" of your personal information — though as stated above, we don't sell or share your data with third parties for their own purposes. We don't discriminate against users who exercise their privacy rights. WorkPet.ai honors Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals where applicable.
WorkPet.ai is intended for users aged 13 and older (16 in some countries that require it under GDPR). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under that age. If you believe a child has signed up, email support@workpet.ai and we'll delete the account promptly. We don't direct WorkPet.ai at children and we don't use it for targeted advertising to anyone. Users under 16 don't receive pet and progress emails.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the date at the top. For material changes, we'll notify you via email or an in-app notice before the changes take effect.
